Advanced Beginner Yiddish

Mondays, February 22 – March 21

This class is a continuation of Elementary Yiddish. We will continue learning basic elements of Yiddish conversation: question words, basic word order, pronouns and simple present tense conjugation of verbs.  We will finish learning the Yiddish alphabet in printed form as well as in script, and we will start to read from a beginner’s text book. In addition, vocabulary is enriched by learning place nouns, colors and articles of clothing, We end by learning the song “Tom Balaleika” in Yiddish.

Beethoven: Master Architect and Seminal Influence

Beethoven’s music marks the transition from the Classical Period to the Age of Romanticism.  He represents the individualism, innovation and transformation that are benchmarks of the 19th Century following the French Revolution.  By listening to excerpts from his “Mighty Nine” symphonies, piano concertos, and a smattering of chamber music, we will embark on a musical adventure reflecting the impact of Beethoven’s personal life and genius within the historical and sociological context of his time.   No prerequisites.

Learn the basic Yiddish alphabet and basic Yiddish conversation and grammar.   Start out with Yiddish in transliteration (Yiddish written in English letters) and then master the 22 letters of the Yiddish alphabet and concentrate on speaking.The class will begin with a brief discussion of where Yiddish came from and go on to easy conversational phrases, songs and proverbs.

Building Blocks to Fluency in Spanish

Learn to Play Canasta
