Communicating seems to be no problem for 5th grade student Matthew Ranmaker. The pupil at Copeland Manor grade school in Libertyville recently earned a perfect score while competing in the WordMasters Challenge, a national vocabulary competition. The Copeland student was among 150,000 others who compete annually.
Competing in the difficult Blue Division, Matthew was flawless, earning the best score of 20. Nationally, only 52 fifth graders achieved a perfect score.
Way to go Matthew!
The WordMasters Challenge is an exercise in critical thinking that encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words, ones that are considerably more difficult than their grade level. Then it challenges the students to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships.
