Congratulations go out to the Waukegan High School JROTC Drill Team for earning its first team victory of the season at the prestigious Purdue Army ROTC Drill Meet Feb. 6.
Senior Cristian Reyes amazed judges with a first place individual performance in the Solo Armed Exhibition.
Cristian put on an impressive two-minute performance that included several complex maneuvers with a rifle for a perfect score of 100. View video of the performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
“He blew me away the first time I saw him. Cristian puts in hours and hours of practice, and he is pretty close to number one in the country,” said 1st Sgt. Lloyd Cunningham, varsity drill team coach.
The big team win came in the Varsity Unarmed Exhibition Platoon, where the WHS Bulldog Drill Team beat out 22 other schools. Senior Eunylda Marin commands the varsity team.
The WHS Drill team also won first place in the Junior Varsity Unarmed Exhibition, commanded by senior Gabriela Garcia.
To top off an exciting day, the final competition of the evening was the Unarmed Tap Out, with Tania Chavez taking second place and Gloria Escamilla finishing third.
The Drill team’s victory was the first of the season, following strong performances previously in Zion and Aurora.
