Congratulations go out to Washington Elementary School students in Waukegan who are among the first-ever Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Elementary Girls Chorus.

Fifth graders Stephanie Acosta-Martinez, Mia Carani, Julianna Garza, Leslie Juarez-Romero and Jennifer Rogel were each named to the inaugural all-state chorus, and had the opportunity to participate in a special concert last month.

The girls traveled to Peoria, along with music teacher Peter Pisello, for a rehearsal and concert that took place on the final day of the 2016 Illinois Music Education Conference.

The students were among 175 girls chosen from around the state of Illinois to perform in the group. Principal Barbara Steinseifer and Washington staffers Karen Peterson and Danielle Gore assisted with the chorus. The girls were recognized during a Board of Education meeting this week.
