North Shore Health Center in Highland Park has been helping those uninsured and under-insured for a decade.

The center at 1840 Green Bay Road, assists families in the Highwood and Highland Park area.

From June 26 at 10 a.m. through July 1 at 8 p.m., the public is invited to participate in a special online auction to support the Friends for Health who has been instrumental in working with the health center to provide specialty medical care services.

We believe that when someone is healed physically, it opens the door for more positive life changes.” – Holly Kerr, chair of Friends For Health

More than 19,000 patients have so far been provided affordable medical and dental care due to the partnership with Friends.

Since 2006, the health center has expanded its services through Friends, to include a variety of educational programs and community volunteer opportunities.

Programs include: Diabetes Prevention and Treatment; an enhanced Women’s Health program focused on uninsured women; and the Moraine Township Food Pantry Garden Plot Project, which allows patients and their families to grow and share their produce with the community.

The medical and wellness support for families in the community is made regardless of their ability to pay.

The Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park has also played a role in the success of of the health center, as well as the support of generous donors.

With an initial contribution to the capital campaign, the healthcare foundation put Friends over the top to reach its goal of $600,000. Since then, every year Friends has received a substantial grant from the healthcare foundation.

“We are proud to have been serving the community for more than 10 years,” said Holly Kerr, Friends For Health board chair. “We believe that when someone is healed physically, it opens the door for more positive life changes. We are dedicated to providing the care and services that help families in need lead happier and healthier lives”
