Beach Park Shooter jailed on $500K Bond

 Authorities reported a shooting in Beach Park Monday that resulted in the injury of a man, and the arrest of another.

On September 12 at approximately 1:13 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 38500 block of North Sheridan Road for a report of a man shot.

When deputies arrived they found a 42 year-old Waukegan man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder.  He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Det. Christopher Covelli of the sheriff’s office.

The preliminary investigation by officials revealed the victim was in the parking lot of the Shoreline Terrace Apartments, speaking with an acquaintance.  He reported a black male, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt approached him by foot, and shot him.  The offender then fled on foot eastbound. Two canine units responded, however, the offender was not located.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives investigated through the overnight hours and identified the shooter as Brandon A. Brown, 26, of the 1900 block of 10th Street, Waukegan.  Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm (class X felony) and aggravated battery (class 3 felony).

Brown was arrested Tuesday after members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force along with Lake County Sheriff’s detectives located him, as he returned to his home. When officers were arresting him, Brown attempted to flee in his vehicle, and struck an unmarked sheriff’s squad car in the process.

Brown was found to be in possession with more than 35 grams of cannabis.  He was additionally charged with resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of cannabis (class A misdemeanor).

Brown is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on $500,000.  His next court date is October 3, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom C-120.
