Lake County Deputy Orlando Portillo said while an autopsy on Matthew J. Strait of Zion, the man who was found dead in a Beach Park ravine Saturday morning, had been conducted and completed Sunday Oct. 9, results will not yet be released.
“An investigation (with Lake County Sheriff’s Office) is continuing,” he told theYOUjournal, citing results would be released after the investigation.
Portillo also stated that toxicology reports are pending.
LCSO deputies responded to a call Saturday morning about a man found in a ravine in Beach Park.
Strait’s body was located on the west side of the 39100 block of North Green Bay Road when deputies arrived on the scene shortly before 10 a.m. Oct. 8.
Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit also responded.
The preliminary investigation indicates Strait was walking in or near the southbound lanes of traffic and was likely struck by an unknown type of vehicle, which was no longer on the scene, according to a statement issued by Lake County Sheriff’s Det. Christopher Covelli.
The injuries on Strait’s body are consistent with being struck by a vehicle, said the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Anyone with information about the incident or information about Strait, including his whereabouts prior to the incident, is urged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County CrimeStoppers 847-662-2222.
