Woman Shot in Waukegan Hijack Attempt

Waukegan Police are looking for two men in a shooting incident early Saturday in the 500 block of Judge Avenue during which a woman was shot in what detectives believe was an attempt to hijack her car.

The unidentified woman who is in her 30s suffered a non-life threatening injury and is in stable condition at an area hospital, according to Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip.

When they found they could not enter her car, one suspect fired a shot at her. They then fled south on Judge Avenue in their car.

The victim, said Florip, told officers as she pulled over to park her car at about 12:35 a.m., a light-colored four-door sedan pulled up behind her. After climbing out of their car, the two suspects, described as black men over six feet tall, approached her trying to force their way into her car.

When they found they could not enter her car, one suspect fired a shot at her. They then fled south on Judge Avenue in their car.

From surveillance pictures, detectives believe that the sedan used by the suspect could be a Chevrolet Impala and there were two occupants in the car besides the suspects.
