Holiday Food Drive Underway for Moraine Township Food Pantry

Non-perishables accepted at Ravinia Businesses until Dec. 16

Ravinia District businesses are hosting a holiday food drive in support of Moraine Township Food Pantry in an effort to help make a dent in hunger in the community.

Participating establishments are collecting non-perishable food donations from now through Dec. 16 during regular business hours.

“Following the district’s extremely successful recycled musical instrument drive for Ravinia Festival’s Reach*Teach*Play education program last spring, we’re thrilled to once again collect for people in need right in our own backyards. This holiday food drive is a great way for the businesses to join forces and give back and help people in our community who turn to food banks for assistance,” said Katie Wiswald, chair of the Ravinia District Association and vice president at Highland Park Bank & Trust. “We are proud to support Moraine Township Food Pantry and the work they do to fight hunger.”

Anne Flanigan Bassi, supervisor of Moraine Township, said she has great gratitude for the Ravinia businesses and the efforts to help replenish food pantry shelves.

“With 26.5 percent of our Highland Park/Highwood elementary students qualifying for the Federal Free/Reduced lunch program based on family income, food insecurity is a realty in our community.”

Flanigan Bassi said items most needed include canned goods, rice, dried beans, cooking oil, toiletries and cleaning supplies. The public is encouraged to drop off non-perishable food donations at more than a dozen participating businesses serving as collection sites including:

Baker Boys, Design Quartet @ Ravinia, Field Violin, Highland Park Bank & Trust, J A Palminteri Insurance Agency, Jeff Cohen Photography, Jewel Nail Spa, The Nail Shop & Spa, Principessa, Ravinia Barber Shop, Salon Raquel, Style Hunters, and Weiland Flowers.

Participating stores will have a flyer in the window for ease in identification. Please see individual business websites for hours of operation.
