Lauren R. Kimbrell, 27, of Waukegan was arrested late Thursday night and charged with two counts of driving under influence of alcohol and other related charges after the car she was driving struck a Lake County sheriff’s squad car.

The squad car was at the scene of an earlier traffic crash on Route 60 at Riverwoods Boulevard in Mettawa with its emergency lights flashing. There were other squad cars as well as a tow truck at the scene.

While there investigating the crash, sheriff’s deputies saw an eastbound Kia Spectra driving quickly toward the squad cars. Deputies were able to move out of harm’s way before the Kia struck one of the squad cars. The Kia also hit one of the vehicles in the previous crash.

Deputies found an open container of alcohol in the suspect’s car. Kimbrell was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail. In addition to the charges of driving under the influence, she was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She is to appear in court on Feb.1.
