After Crashing into a Snowbank, Alleged Armed Robber & Accomplice Arrested

A 48-year-old Beach Park man was arrested Thursday Dec. 22, in connection with the armed robbery of Anna’s Marketplace & Car Wash on Sheridan Road in the village early that morning.

Ronald Edmiston of the 38300 block of North Wilson Road was a passenger in a White Cadillac Eldorado with an Illinois license that is believed to be used in the armed robbery at the gas station at 38512 N. Sheridan Road. The robber approached the store clerk at about 5:35 a.m. with a knife and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. The suspect fled in a white Cadillac.

Zion police spotted the Cadillac and tried to stop it. It sped off. However, the vehicle later crashed into a snow bank, at which time both suspects were arrested.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies issued an alert to area police departments. Three hours later at about 10:30 a.m., Zion police spotted the Cadillac and tried to stop it, and the driver sped off. However, the vehicle later crashed into a snow bank. Both Edmiston and the driver, identified as Teresa Copeland, 50, of 11400 block of Edgewood Lane, Beach Park, were arrested by sheriff’s deputies. A knife believed to be used in the armed robbery was found in the Cadillac.

Edmiston was taken to a hospital because of a pre-existing medical condition. Sheriff’s office said after his release from the hospital, he will be transported to Lake County Jail and charged with armed robbery and burglary. A bond hearing will be held.

Copeland was charged by Zion Police with offenses related to the car chase, sheriff’s office said. She is being held in Lake County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Her next court hearing will be Dec. 30.
