Santos L. Martinez, the 18 year old who was wanted in connection with the dragging of a police officer with a stolen vehicle he was driving, was apprehended today at 2:40 p.m. by detectives from the Waukegan Police Department‘s criminal investigations division.
Martinez was on foot in the area of Washington Street and Fulton Avenue in Waukegan when he was arrested.
His bond has been set at $250,000. He is charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
The event involving Martinez and Waukegan Police which took place Dec. 3, was captured on cell phone video by a nearby businessman. The incident was at a BP gas station in the 900 block of Grand Avenue.
Martinez was driving a gray Volkswagon which had been stolen on Nov. 29, when the officer at the gas station attempted to arrest him. A scuffle ensued, with Martinez allegedly resisting arrest, and the officer was dragged by the vehicle Martinez was operating.
Martinez will be taken to bond court this weekend, according to police.
