Gurnee Turkey Trot Nets Nearly $13K for Local Organizations

 Funds to be distributed Monday at the Gurnee Police Station

Thousands of dollars was raised to help local organizations at the 23rd annual Gurnee Turkey Trot held in memory of young Gurnee student Jon Callaghan who died after fighting a battle with childhood cancer.

The annual 5K run/walk fundraiser held on Thanksgiving morning netted $12,700. There were approximately 475 participants.

Funds will be officially distributed to recipients on Monday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Gurnee Police Department, 100 N. O’Plaine Road in Gurnee.

Among the recipients are: Gurnee Community Church Youth Missions Program, Gurnee School District 56 Special Needs Program, Warren Township Food Pantry, and the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.

Representatives from the Gurnee Turkey Trot Committee will be on hand to distribute checks, including Mike and Kim Callaghan, Jon’s parents.
