While a man charged with armed robbery of a Beach Park gas station sat at the Lake County Jail Thursday Dec. 29, he was served a warrant as a suspect in another armed robbery, this time at a Waukegan motel. Both incidents involved a knife, and both took place on Dec. 22 within hours apart.

Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip made the announcement that arrest warrant papers had been served to Ronald Edmiston, 48, of Beach Park.

Edmiston made headlines last week when a white Cadillac he was in crashed into a snowbank in Beach Park while in police pursuit. After the crash, Lake County Sheriff’s detectives arrested him and charged him with robbery at knife-point of Anna’s Marketplace & Car Wash/Citgo gas station, 38512 N. Sheridan Road in Beach Park around 5:30 a.m.

Edmiston is charged by Waukegan Police with robbing the Travelodge at 3633 N. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan at 2:25 a.m.

He is being held at Lake County Jail on $750,000 bond. His next court date is set for Jan. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lake County courthouse in Waukegan.

In the Anna’s Marketplace robbery, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives said Beach Park resident Teresa Copeland, 50, was the driver of the Cadillac. She was arrested with Edmiston when the car crashed into the snowbank. A knife believed to be used in the Anna’s Marketplace robbery was found in the Cadillac, according to police.

Copeland was turned over to the Illinois Department of Corrections today, Dec. 30, after they issued a parole violation warrant, according to Det. Christopher Covelli, Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

“We’re proud of our Criminal Investigative Division for working so diligently on this and the other cases,” said Cmdr. Florip of his Waukegan Police Department staff.
