A qualified local student will be awarded a $500 college scholarship by the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said.
Applicants must write a 350-word essay on the heroin epidemic. They must be permanent Illinois residents and enrolled full-time at a certified college in the state for the 2017-2018 school year. The scholarship is for paying for tuition, books and fees.
Applications must be completed by March 15. They are available at the sheriff’s office at 25 S Martin Luther King Drive, Waukegan or on the sheriff’s website under the Services tab.
