Daniel J. O’Brien, a suspect wanted for two armed robberies in Waukegan, has been arrested in Chicago, according to Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip.
Chicago Police notified Waukegan Police Thursday, Jan. 19, that they had O’Brien in custody. Detectives, Florip said, will be dispatched to Chicago to bring him back.
“Right now he is being processed there,” said Florip.
He said he has no details as to under what circumstances the suspect was found and apprehended in Chicago.
An arrest warrant for O’Brien, 30, had been issued by Waukegan Police in connection with two armed robberies at gas stations in November. The suspect is described by police as homeless and the warrant carries a $500,000 bond.
Both incidents happened on Nov. 22. At 12 a.m. the Murphy’s station in the 3800 block of Fountain Square was robbed at gunpoint, and at 7 p.m. the BP Amoco in the 2900 block of Belvidere Road was also robbed at gunpoint. An undisclosed amount of money was taken in each incident.
Waukegan Police considered the suspect armed and dangerous and warnings were put out for anyone who had come across him.
