LCSO Marine Unit Deputy Hailed a Hero for Saving Lives

Marine Unit Deputy Jonathan Levin of Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been honored by Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit and Chief Police Chief Russell Laine for his life-saving action at July 16 traffic crash in the village.

Levin was driving home when he came across a fatal accident involving a pickup truck and three motorcycles on State Park Road south of Grass Lake Road. He immediately got out of his car and used it to block traffic to protect the victims.

He then pulled to safety the two motorcyclists which were trapped underneath the burning pickup. He administered first aid to them until Fox Lake paramedics took over. One of the trapped motorcyclists died.

Commenting on the incident, Sheriff Mark Curran said, “I am very proud of Deputy Levin who showed true courageousness when faced with a very dangerous situation.”

Undersheriff Ray Rose said Levin’s actions beyond the call of duty saved a life.
