Through a grant from a trio of organizations – Illinois Department of Transportation, Bureau of Safety Programs and Engineering, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Gurnee Police Department conducted enhanced safety restraint and impaired driving enforcement activities throughout the village.
The traffic campaign to increase safety restraint compliance and to remove imparied drivers from the roads, took place from Dec. 16 – Jan. 2.
Officers worked an extra 20 hours for the five deployments in addition to them conducting their regular patrol duties.
The stops resulted in 28 citations issued, including 15 for safety belt violations. There were also three arrests made for suspended or revoked driving; and three citations for uninsured motorists.
