Michael A. Danforth of Barrington, an attorney and certified public mediator, has been recommended to serve as the Lake County Board member of District 17 by board president Aaron Lawlor.

The post has been vacant when Nick Sauer resigned after he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives for District 51 which includes Island Lake, Lake Barrington, Port Barrington, North Barrington, Barrington Hills, Tower Lakes, Fox River Grove and potions of Wauconda and Hawthorn Woods.

The board is expected to act on the recommendation when it meets Feb. 14. If appointed, Danforth will serve until 2018.

Danforth, Lawlor said, “will be a diligent and energetic leader for District 17 taxpayers and businesses. He shares my passion for growing our local economy and consolidating local units of government where it saves tax dollars and make sense.”

Danforth served as a DeKalb County Board member and DeKalb County Forest Preserve commissioner while studying for his bachelor’s degree at Northern Illinois University.

“I believe my former experience as a county board member, coupled with my experience as a practicing attorney, allow me to seamlessly transition into the position,” he said.

“I hope to continue to build upon Rep. Sauer’s excellent work and continue our mutual vision of a prosperous and innovative Lake County,” he added.
