To encourage the use of rainwater, Highland Park is selling a limited number of 55-gallon rain barrels to residents for the subsidized price of $25 each. Installations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The collected water can be used to water plants, wash cars or lawn furniture.
“This is an important step as we strive to continuously improve our rea water quality in a cost-effective manner,” said City manager Ghida S. Neukirch.
Rain barrels may be purchased by completing a form at City Hall, 1707 St Johns Avenue or on the website at www.cityhall.com/RainBarrel. Pickup is at Highland Park Recycling Center, 1180 Half Day Road which is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and the first Saturday of each month.
