‘Random’ Stabbing Occurs at Waukegan Grocery Store, Suspect in Custody

On March 1 at approximately 7:45 p.m. officers from the Waukegan Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the Superfresh Market in the 1500 block of N. Lewis Avenue for a call of multiple people that were stabbed.

However, upon arrival, officers determined only one of the people was stabbed. The other person injured was hurt during an altercation with the offender.

At this time detectives believe this is a random act of violence. The suspect’s identity will be released after the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviews the investigation and charges approved. 

Witnesses provided police a description of the suspect and he was located in the 1500 block of N. Lewis, behind a business.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The weapon, a pocketknife, was recovered.

The two victims, both males in their late teens, took themselves to an area hospital and were treated for minor injuries.

Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident.  At this time detectives believe this is a random act of violence.

The suspect’s identity will be released after the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviews the investigation and charges appropriately approved.
