Trio Arrested Attempting to Flee in Stolen Vehicle

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three people early Monday morning after a report of a stolen vehicle was made in Beach Park.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the victim’s residence in the 12900 block of West Wakefield Drive, March 6 at approximately 5:45 a.m., they were told a 2013 Buick Verano had been stolen during the overnight hours.

Sheriff’s deputies searched and located the car, which was occupied by three people,  in the area of Sunset Avenue and North Green Bay Road in Waukegan.  When deputies attempted to conducted a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee.  Because the car was equipped with OnStar, personnel of that company were able to disable the vehicle.  One of the passengers, Arturo Torres, 22, of the 600 block of Baldwin Avenue, Waukegan. fled on foot, but was apprehended by deputies.

The driver of the vehicle, Jose L. Borjon, 24, of the 2500 block of West Atlantic Avenue, Waukegan, and the other passenger, a juvenile, were also both arrested.

Because the car was equipped with OnStar, personnel of that company were able to disable the vehicle. 

Borjon was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle (class 2 felony), fleeing and eluding (class A misdemeanor), and traffic violations.  He remains held in the Lake County Jail on $200,000 bond.  His next court date is March 28.

Torres was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle (class 2 felony), resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor), and criminal trespass to a motor vehicle (class A misdemeanor).  Torres was also wanted on an arrest warrant by the Waukegan Police Department for failure to register as a sex offender.  He remains held in the Lake County Jail on $200,000 bond.  His next court date is March 8.

The juvenile was transported to the Hulse Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills and petitioned to juvenile court on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.
