A recent beam signing event for the new Lake County courthouse expansion brought out officials and notables alike earlier this week.
The County of Lake hosted the event at the construction site on April 11.
We look forward to serving the people of Lake County in the new tower.” – 19th Circuit Court Chief Judge Jorge L. Ortiz
Among the officials attending was Lake County Chief Judge Jorge L. Ortiz who penned his name to the beam which will go atop the 8-story 200,000-square-foot justice center. The center is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.
“We look forward to serving the people of Lake County in the new tower,” said Judge Ortiz.
The long-awaited expansion project began with a ground breaking in 2016. The new court facility is located at the corner of County and Washington Streets in Waukegan, and sits between the Babcox Justice Center, which has three courtrooms, and the existing 25-courtroom main court complex.
The 19th Judicial Circuit is the third largest court system in the state.
