R. Scott MacLean, manager of park maintenance at the Waukegan Park District since 1995, has been appointed superintendent of parks. He succeeds Mike Trigg, who has recently retired.
As manager he was responsible for 11 full-time and more than 38 seasonal employees for the district’s 48 sites, including 735 acres of land. He handled everything from overseeing maintenance and repairs, to construction.
He has been a committed community volunteer, particularly with P.A.D.S., according to the park district.
“Scott has done a tremendous job over the years, assuming greater responsibility and leadership,” said Greg Petry, executive director, pointing out that the superintendent position was advertised nationally.

MacLean, he said, was the most qualified and obvious choice after interviewing several candidates.
A graduate of State University of New York at Brockport with a B.S. degree in recreation and management, he previously worked at Sugarbush Ski Resort in Warren, Vt., and Lake County Forest Preserves.
Scott enjoys sports and is especially passionate about skiing, snowshoeing, and the outdoors. He also enjoys canoeing, kayaking and mountain biking.
He and his teenage son, Colin, live in Waukegan.
